Foster Parent Recruitment
Philly Family Pride, partnering with the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs and DHS recruits LGBTQ adults (single and partnered) in the Philadelphia area to become foster parents, specifically for LGBTQ youth in the system.
In the fall of 2017, we held three, well-attended information sessions that included basic foster parent requirements information as well as panels of LGBTQ+ foster parents and former foster youth (one panel pictured below). Our first successful match came at the very first meeting. You can read more about their family here. |
The spring of 2018 we held another three sessions (March 22, April 26 and May 24th) to recruit more foster parents to be affirming households.
Our final stand-alone recruitment event of 2018 was on August 16 at the Penn LGBT Center. Another workshop at our annual conference yielded a match between an LGBTQ youth and an LGBTQ household. (Pictured, Penn LGBT Center session.) |
Two sessions were held in the spring of 2019, March 11, Lovett Library 6-8pm and April 18, William Way LGBT Center. Our final two events of 2019 were held at the Penn LGBT Center on August 22nd and at the William Way Center on December 11th.
In 2020 we held an event at the William Way Center on Feb. 27th. Since then we have been holding online meetings on Zoom. Recordings of many of these sessions can be found on our YouTube channel or on our Facebook page. Our most recent Foster Parent Recruitment event took place in 2021 in conjunction with our annual conference in November. The next informational session will take place through the Paths to Parenthood classes on Tues. July 19 at 6:00pm, titled "Becoming an LGBTQ+ Foster Parent".
